Following a major crash with Pol Espargaro at Silverstone, Loris Baz is to miss out on the Misano GP to be replaced by Xavi Fores

With pundits saying both riders were lucky to have survived the crash, trackside doctors remarkably suggested Baz had only suffered a sprained ankle.

Further tests, however, showed that Baz had sustained a fracture to his lower tibia and astragalus on his right foot.

Avintia Ducati has now confirmed that Xavi Fores will replace Baz at the Misano GP.

Baz's doctors have also ruled out surgery meaning the fractures will have to heal naturally.

"It is a real shame the news I got once I came to visit my doctors in Switzerland, and I didn't expect it. But after several tests, they saw some fractures on my right foot," said Baz.

"The main fractures are on my tibia and astragalus.

"I am still fortunate not to have serious injuries following the crash at Silverstone. I feel bad and sorry for my team, because we were coming back and improving in the last few races.

"It's a shame, but I'll try my best to come back as soon as possible and finish the year in the best possible way.

"This was another hard blow in my season after the one from Mugello, but I have to be positive and look forward."

The 23-year-old Frenchman had previously sustained fractures to his right leg at the Italian GP missing out on two MotoGP rounds.

The veteran rider Fores will replace Baz at Avintia Ducati for the Misano GP which will be the very first time the Spaniard has ridden in MotoGP.

Avintia Ducati was planning to utilise Michelle Pirro's expertise to replace Baz, however, he was awarded a wildcard entry for the Misano GP by the Factory Ducati team.

Baz will be present at Misano GP to help Fores in setting up the Avintia Ducati.
