In a move that could send shockwaves through the world of MotoGP, Suzuki may be edging towards a sensational return to MotoGP.

The manufacturer previously left the sport at the end of the 2011 season, pointing to financial reasons as the main cause for its departure.

However, in a notable turnaround, the Japanese firm could be set for a sensational return with the head of rights holder Dorna, Carmelo Ezpeleta, admitting that talks had opened over a potential comeback.

"They are asking us to have some testing during the 2013 season and if everything goes well maybe we will see them in 2014," he told BBC Sport.

Despite these ongoing discussions though, Mr Ezpeleta was keen to note that nothing had yet been confirmed.

This would be something of a coup for MotoGP as it looks to rebuild its damaged reputation and would mean that the competition had four manufactures in it - the same as Formula 1.

It would mark a significant return for Suzuki, who had previously competed in motorcycle grand prix racing for 37 years prior to their controversial departure.
