Yamaha has released a new concept sport bike called the MT-09, backed up by a lavish YouTube video showing four of them riding around the streets of Japan at night.
The release comes after a two-week long teaser campaign designed to celebrate the 'Dark Side' of Japan.
Yamaha Motor UK has described the new bike as "a new kind of brutal animal, which is about to change the sport motorcycle world".
The MT-09 certainly has a rich heritage to live up to, with the name linking it to the MT-01 muscle bike, which met with much acclaim when it was released back in 2005 thanks to its striking visuals and thunderous engine sound.
In a statement released through Facebook, Yamaha Motor explains that the "MT-09 is a whole new concept in sport bike design. With a compact new chassis and high-torque 3-cylinder engine, this new generation performance machine is designed for riders who appreciate character and soul."
The release continues by explaining that the MT-09 is powered by a lightweight 850cc three-cylinder engine, which is fed by a 14-litre fuel tank and delivers 113bhp at 10,000rpm.
Other key points include the compact aluminium chassis and upright riding position, making the bike equally suitable for city riding and blasting around on a Sunday morning.
Owners will also benefit from a die-cast aluminium swingarm, monocross rear suspension, YCC-T and D-MODE electronic control systems.
Colour options include Deep Armour Black (pictured above), Blazing Orange, Matt Grey and Racing Blu.
The MT-09 is due to arrive in dealerships from September with a starting price of £6,799. Full details are available now on the Yamaha UK website.
