Formula One icon Lewis Hamilton has opened up about his secret love of MotoGP and motorbikes.

In his latest column for BBC Sport, the 2008 champion explained that he has always had a passion for motorbikes from a very early age.

He explained that every Christmas as a child he would always ask for a motorcycle but his dad said they were "too dangerous" and bought him a go-kart instead.

The rest, as they say, is history but Hamilton still has that passion for bikes and especially MotoGP.

He revealed that he was able to see his first race earlier this month at Le Mans (19 May) which he described as a "great thrill".

Hamilton also admitted that he was a little starstruck when he met Yamaha MotoGP legends Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi after the race.

"Since I started watching MotoGP, Rossi was the man, so to finally meet him was great," Hamilton added.

"The charisma and personality he has when you're watching on TV was exactly the same when I met him. I was overwhelmed."
