Batman fans now have the opportunity to step into the shoes of the caped crusader as his souped-up "batpod" is set to go up for sale

Utilised by Batman to take on not only Heath Ledger's Joker but countless villains throughout the Dark Knight trilogy the motorbike hybrid is expected to sell for around £70,000 at auction.

Having seen action in all three films, the fibreglass crime fighting machine has far fewer dents or scratches than you would imagine.

The much-loved batpod will be sold at auction in Waterloo, London on September 27 at the Prop Store's Entertainment Memorabilia auction at the BFI's IMAX cinema in London.

In The Art and Making of The Dark Knight Trilogy, director, Christopher Nolan said: "I hesitate to call it a motorcycle because its design was much more exotic and powerful looking than a traditional motorcycle."

If you do happen to get your hands on it, you will have to lie in a prone position when riding, steering it with your arms and shoulders.

Sadly for those hoping to get out on the open road as soon as possible the futuristic batpod is, in fact, in a non-functional rolling only condition.

To get it back on the road, pepped up to working standard and, of course, to battle crime the motorbike needs a new battery, fuel tank and throttle controls.

Fibreglass body panels finished in metallic grey paint cover the bike's engine and handlebars.

A pair of cannon barrels made of plastic, resin and fibreglass are secured at the front of the vehicle, and a laser targeting unit is fitted above the right hand grip.

Batman's very own bike will be supplied with a metal support stand for display purposes and a Warner Brothers certificate of authenticity.
