British rider Scott Redding has set the fastest lap in the first Moto2 free practice at Silverstone this morning with a time of 2'09.034 seconds.

The 20-year-old is currently leading the Moto2 championship, and is 21 points ahead of his nearest rival, Pol Espargaro.

Redding finished the practice session 0.059 seconds ahead of the Spaniard who finished the free practice as second fastest.

The pair were closely followed by Dominique Aegerter, Johann Zarco and Esteve Rabat who completed the top five.

Many fans will be hoping to see the Marc VDS Racing Team rider secure a win at the Moto2 race this Sunday (1 September), indeed he is the best chance of seeing a home-grown winner this weekend.

Redding is the last Brit to win a British motorcycle grand prix race, five years ago when he won the 125cc class race at Donington in 2008.

Redding confirmed yesterday that he will be joining Gresini Honda for his rookie MotoGP season in 2014, whilst rival Pol Espargaro will be joing the Yamaha Tech 3 team.
