FIM has revealed various rule changes to the World Superbike championship (WSBK) that will be put in place from the start of the 2014 season.

The new rules include price caps on both the brakes and suspension of the bikes, and there will also be a limited number of gear ratios.

It is not yet clear exactly what the price caps will be, but the overall target of the new rule changes is to "reduce costs for the motorcycle and its components".

One of the other new rules to be enforced is a limit on the number of engines a rider can have each season, which is now limited to eight.

It was announced by the Grand Prix Commission last month that MotoGP will have its own engine restriction, but MotoGP riders will be limited to only five engines per season.

WSBK 2014 will also introduce a new EVO class, which will follow the same regulations regarding chassis, brake and suspension components.

The differences regard the electronics and engine specifications, which will follow the current FIM Superstock rules.

The decision follows the introduction of the Evolution class in the British Superbike Championships in 2010, and aims to make it possible for teams to enter the championship for reduced costs.

It was also announced that the MSMA (Manufacturer's Association) will supply complete motorcycle packages at a fixed price, for the years 2014, 2015 and 2016.

The packages will be supplied on request with the aim to "ensure that there are a sufficient number of riders with competitive motorcycles on the grid".

The technical rules won't officially be published until the end of this month, but early signs suggest that teams will be working hard to prepare for next season as they try to accommodate these new rule changes.
